ich | das Schaufenster
das Schaufenster has its origin in the Schauspielhaus Schaufenster, which
during the theatre season 2000/2001 under the management of Hans Gratzer and
the artistic direction of Hannes Wurm served as the second venue of
Schauspielhaus Wien. In
2003, it was established as an independent theatre.
das Schaufenster is a space of the art world defined by the transparent boundary of a window, separating it from what happens outside. The boundary between the worlds of art and daily life, visually as well as acoustically permeable, creates a space in which art and everyday matters influence and determine each other. Life outside the stage infiltrates the performance, which in turn penetrates everyday life. “Where there is a window, it is inevitable that the world seeps in while art seeps out.” (Arthur C. Danto) In this context, art is seen as a possibility to experience and recognise reality, i.e., the relationship between the existence of the individual and their world.
Staging at das Schaufenster,
understood to be a joint creative process of the participating performers,
enables the recipient to approach it during the performance event and to
relate it directly to the world outside. The idea of das Schaufenster is to
use spaces temporarily. This is also conceived as an instrument for taking
space in the political and social discourse with regard to the concept of
diversity, and to provide it to artists as free space.
